Huskies Launch Player Support Program for Edmonton-Area High School Athletes

It all begins with an idea.

With the current teachers’ strike putting high school football on pause across Edmonton, the Edmonton Huskies Football Club is stepping up to help.

We’re proud to announce our Huskies Player Support Program — a community-driven initiative designed to give local high school players a place to train, learn, and stay connected to the game during the strike. Football builds structure, confidence, and community, and we’re committed to making sure young athletes don’t lose that momentum.

What the Program Offers

Players will train alongside our coaching staff and unit leaders in a full football environment. Each session includes:

  • Position-specific coaching and unit development

  • Team meetings focused on football IQ, preparation, and leadership

  • Scout offence and defence periods to keep reps sharp and competitive

  • Game-style scrimmages to finish the week strong

It’s a great opportunity for athletes to grow their skills, connect with other players, and experience the energy of a CJFL-level program.

Schedule

  • Weeknights (Tuesday–Friday): 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

  • Saturday Morning: Pre-game walk-through, 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM

  • Sunday: Game Day, 11:00 AM – 4:30 PM at JP Bowl

  • Location: Huskie House — 9140 Walterdale Hill, Edmonton

Cost & Equipment

  • Program Fee: $25 per player (to cover insurance only)

  • Payment: E-transfer to payment@EdmontonHuskies.com

  • Gear: Bring your own helmet, pads, cleats, etc. if possible — but if you can’t, we’ll make sure you still get safe, meaningful reps.

We’re capping registration at 100 players to ensure everyone gets proper coaching attention and field time.

Why We’re Doing This

Football is more than just a game — it’s a family. When part of our community is impacted, the Huskies step up. The Player Support Program is our way of keeping young athletes engaged, confident, and connected while schools work through the strike.

If you’re a high school player looking to keep your skills sharp and be part of something positive, we’d love to have you join the Huskies family.
